The UK's only naturalised parrot - very long, narrow tail and a bright red bill. Males have a black throat and a thin black and a pink and black ring around its face and neck.
Parakeets are very noisy birds and can often be detected by their loud grating screeches. Females have a less noticeable neck-ring than males and also lack the blue on the head and nape.
The Ring-necked Parakeet was first recorded in a wild state in Britain in 1969. Since then the self-supporting population has increased dramatically.
